Director of Laurel District
2021-2023
Susan Stephens

“Plant America with Health, Happiness, and Fun”

I joined the Magnolia Garden Club in 2015 and have never regretted that choice. I have been so fortunate to serve as the chair for our annual Pond and Garden Tour fundraiser in 2018. I was honored to receive the “Distinguished Member Award” in 2016 and 2020. I presently serve as the Treasurer and Yearbook chair. In Laurel District I served as Editor for Laurel Letters for five years and editor for Board Briefs for two years. In 2019-2021 I held the office of Co-Director for Laurel Letters. I am excited to begin the journey as Director of Laurel District.

My background is working for 31 years in the Technical College system at former Coosa Valley Tech (Rome) and North Metro Tech (Acworth). Presently I volunteer on the Chattahoochee Tech Foundation Board as a trustee, where I chaired the major Reverse Raffle fundraiser for the college. After my retirement, I started my own business, Susan Stephens Designs, specializing in window treatments, staging, floral arrangements, color selections and shopping for clients.

I am the proud Mom of three grown children, who have blessed me with eight grandchildren. I am truly blessed. All the grands know that whoever is the baby is Grandmommie’s favorite. They range in age from 2 to 20 years old.

The Magnolia Garden Club welcomes new members, either experienced or novices who have an active interest and love for garden and plant life and/or floral design. Thank goodness they accept novices. I love nature and I am constantly amazed at the beauty of flowers and trees. I relax on my back deck and I am amazed at the many colors of green present in the various trees. One of my favorite things is to sit with my youngest grand and listen and watch birds in the yard. I am mostly a “container gardener” and love waiting on bulbs to bloom or selecting color to enjoy in each season.
